The Live from the Rock Folk Festival can only happen with great volunteers – thank you for your interest!

 

All volunteers will be asked to commit approximately 15 hours over the course of the weekend, August 9th through 11th, 2019. In exchange, all volunteers will receive a weekend pass to the festival, a festival t-shirt to wear while volunteering and a voting membership for the Live from the Rock Blues and Folk Society.

 

Volunteers will be asked to respectfully represent the festival while volunteering and will be provided with a list of responsibilities. Youth volunteers must be in high school or entering high school/secondary school in September of 2019. Volunteer hour forms must be brought by the student to the festival to have signed by their coordinator once their hours are completed.

Camping is available to all volunteers; however, volunteers must pay the full price for camping. Passes are available at the gate on the festival weekend.

 

If you are interested in volunteering please complete the following application form.  You will be contacted in late-July and provided with more information about your volunteer assignment for the weekend. Please spread the word about volunteering!

 

To guarantee yourself a t-shirt, your application must be submitted by July 19, 2019.

We will continue to accept volunteer applications until August 9, 2019.  However there is no guarantee you will receive a t-shirt, and if you do, it may not be in your desired size.

*We especially need volunteers with Sound Technical Crew.  This crew helps in the set up of sound equipment in advance of the festival and run sound boards on three of our side stages on festival weekend. To make sure all volunteers are a good fit to the position they are screened by our technical director*

Site Set Up
The volunteers of our site set up crew are responsible for numerous activities starting in advance of the festival including setting up Main Stage and Creekside Stage, placement of festival signage and banners, set up of site fencing, assisting technical crew with delivery and set up of sound equipment. This crew also ensures that garbage bins, tables and chairs are delivered to required locations. Knowledge of the festival site, physical fitness, willingness to work long hours and a valid driver's license are assets for joining this small crew.
 
Site Tear Down
The volunteers of our site tear-down crew are called into action once the festival ends. Their tasks include tearing down the Main Stage and Creekside Stage tents, and taking down all festival signs and banners. This crew works closely with Red Rock Township staff stating Sunday evening and the day after the festival. Knowledge of the festival site, physical fitness, willingness to work long hours and a valid driver's license are assets for joining this small crew.
 
Children's Area
These volunteers use their creativity and energy to plan and carry out entertainment, games  
and hands-on activities for our "little folk". It is the job of this crew to make sure that everyone  has a safe and enjoyable time.
 
Security
Security volunteers may be assigned to one of several different tasks:


Instrument Lockup
These volunteers provide secure storage of performers' instruments and personal items in the 
backstage area. We look for people with strong customer service skills, physical strength and  endurance to move equipment, and this who can handle items with care.


Back Stage Security
This crew works as the gatekeepers to the Green Room and area behind the main stage. Assertive volunteers are needed in this area to ensure that only folks with proper credentials are allowed access behind main stage.


Overnight Security
We require several individuals to remain at our main gate and ensure only campers area lowed
access to the festival site. In addition, one volunteer will be required to stay on the main stage during the night shift from close of main stage to 8:00am. These volunteers must have use of personal cell phone.


Bag Checks
These volunteers check bags to make sure festival attendees and volunteers are not bringing  
prohibited items, such as fireworks, alcohol or drugs, into the festival.


Festival Pub Security
Individuals will be required to check identification and ensure those entering the festival pub 
area over the age of 19 years. Assertive volunteers with experience in making decisions under  pressure required. These volunteers must be 19 years or older.
 
Environmental Team
This crew makes sure that the festival site remains clean. Duties include picking up garbage, 
making sure there is enough toilet paper in the portable toilets, re-stocking hand-sanitizer,  removing garbage bags from bins and emptying recycling bins. The festival is looking for people that can work independently, can walk for 4 hours at a time and are able to lift garbage bags out of bins.
 
Traffic/Parking
This crew directs vehicles at the festival site and ensures that only vehicles displaying vehicle  
permits are allowed past the main gate. Volunteers need to be able to stand for four hours at a time and feel confident directing traffic; for example "I'm sorry, you can't bring your vehicle in without a parking pass". Or, "You will have to move your vehicle because we are keeping this area for accessible parking".
 

Festival Pub
Volunteers on this crew must be 19 years of age and be able to work in a busy environment selling liquor tickets, serving alcohol and being assertive in refusing sale of alcohol.

 
Schleppers
Schleppers transport instruments, supplies and passengers on the site using golf carts and small vehicles. A valid driver's license is mandatory and volunteers much have the physical strength and endurance to lift items and the problem solving skills to deal with any situation.
 
Merchandise Tent
Members of this crew sell Live From the Rock merchandise and raffle tickets in the tent. We are looking for people with cash handling experience and customer service skills.
 
Sound Technical Crew
This crew helps in the set up of sound equipment in advance of the festival and run sound boards on three of our side stages on festival weekend. To make sure all volunteers are a good fit to the position they are screened by our technical director.
 
Volunteer Station
Our volunteer station provides a check-in for all volunteers, performers, artisans and food vendors. Members of this crew have skills to work with the public, are knowledgeable about the festival and are able to answer questions.
 
Raffles
Raffles are an important fundraiser for the festival, so volunteers are this crew should have an outgoing personality and cash handling experience. Volunteers will be asked to mix and mingle, so crew members will need to be able to walk during their shift.

Senior (65+)/Youth (13-18) - $90
Child (5-12) - $35

Children 4 and under are free. 

Camping passes are $20 per person - children 4 and under free.

The campground is pet free. There are a variety of pet boarding options in the Nipigon, Pass Lake and Thunder Bay area. Please search the Internet to find the one which suits you and your four-legged friend the best!

 
 

The festival takes place in one of the most beautiful and surreal places on earth. Red Rock’s marina front Pull-A-Log Park is located on the north shore of Lake Superior and is fully accessible by car or boat.

Red Rock is 110 km east of Thunder Bay on the TransCanada highway, and 15 km west of Nipigon.
